The MMRI is diversifying and expanding it research portfolio. One new area is thrombosis or blood clot research with a focus on deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). Together DVT and PR are called venous thromboembolism ( VTE ).
Current research efforts aim to help doctors stratify and treat patients with DVT and PE by:
- Discovering novel imaging strategies/biomarkers of disease.
- Testing novel therapies to promote quicker DVT/PE resolution while decreasing tissue injury
- Developing clinically relevant models of DVT and PE to advance the understanding of VTE
